This campaign is the first of its kind to solely focus on elevating women’s sports facilities. The mission is to provide Cal Softball and Cal Beach Volleyball programs with modern facilities to help them achieve excellence in athletics and academics at Cal.
Cal Athletics is dedicated to supporting all of our student-athletes with access to equitable resources and amenities. Aligning with our mission to provide all student-athletes with a well-rounded experience, complete with first-rate opportunities for their athletic, academic, and personal growth, new facilities remain a critical component.
Cal Athletics is actively fundraising for the development of new beach volleyball and softball team facilities. We aim to provide our existing women’s teams with fields, courts and associated amenities that are similar to what their male counterparts at Cal already enjoy while also meeting our obligations under Title IX.
We are excited to share this funding opportunity with you. Our overall goal is $8 million, and we have achieved $4.7M towards our target goal. Chancellor Carol Christ is fully supportive of this campaign and has generously allocated funds to assist our efforts.

Beach Volleyball Facility Project
Cal Beach Volleyball will soon have a new facility to call home under a plan announced in the summer of 2018 as part of the university and athletic department’s commitment to support student-athletes in all of their educational activities. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2021.
The fastest growing NCAA sport, beach volleyball is sponsored by nine Pac-12 schools and 75 total universities around the country. Cal began its program in 2014, and the Bears have quickly become a top-15 team. With the new facility, Cal will be able to host televised matches, better accommodate fans and provide the resources to allow the Bears to thrive on the national stage.
The beach volleyball facility will remain on the Clark Kerr Campus, moving to a new location near the intersection of Sports Lane and Dwight Way. It will feature four sand courts, as well as permanent spectator seating, a team building, locker rooms, restrooms and a scoreboard. The team currently uses two courts with no permanent amenities.

Softball Facility Project
Cal Softball will soon have a new stadium to call home under a plan announced in the summer of 2018 as part of the university and athletic department’s commitment to support student-athletes in all of their educational activities. Demolition of the site is expected to begin in the summer of 2021.
Cal has a storied history in softball with 32 NCAA Tournament appearances, 12 trips to the Women’s College World Series and one national title in 2002. With such an illustrious past, the stadium is being built to help current and future generations of Golden Bears reach new standards of performance.
Located on the current site of Levine-Fricke Field, the diamond’s orientation will be shifted, with the new home plate area near the current left field foul pole. Once completed, the venue will include expanded permanent seating, covered batting cages, locker rooms, a video board, restrooms, field lighting and an elevated press box, among other amenities. The facility will be configured to meet field dimension standards, and Cal will be able to host NCAA Tournament games, which the team is currently unable to do.
