Cal Men's Basketball Excellence Initiative
The Cal Men’s Basketball Excellence Initiative is the exclusive philanthropic giving society of Cal Men’s Basketball. Support will provide the crucial funds needed to accelerate men’s basketball to the top of the conference by ensuring Coach Madsen has the resources to invest in facility enhancements, nutrition, technology and innovation, and attracting and retaining an elite coaching staff.

Strategic Opportunities and Priorities
Investments in the Cal Men's Basketball Excellence Initiative will flow through the Men’s Basketball Strategic Opportunity and Excellence Fund. Resources will go towards enhancing operations and bolstering priorities determined by Head Coach Mark Madsen and the director of athletics that ensure competitive success and the student-athlete experience.
Holistic Facility Enhancements
An elevated basketball suite will assist with improved operations and recruiting. A dedicated media space can be used for photo/video shoots and enable content creation for recruiting, promotions, donor outreach, and more. Recovery and rehabilitation spaces and equipment including hydrotherapy tanks, sauna, cryotherapy and sleep pods will enhance overall wellness and performance.
Nutrition
Cal Athletics is committed to enhancing the nutritional offerings for Men’s Basketball – additional support in this area will increase the number of high-quality catered meals that are provided daily and will enable premium products offered at the elite/professional levels to be purchased. A dedicated nutrition and wellness space is a long term goal.
Technology and Innovation
Investing in industry standard technology like HDI Analytic Services and Catapult, will make training and practice more efficient and effective; recruiting software will enable staff to quickly identify and recruit top prospects.
Attracting and Retaining Elite Coaching and Support Staff
Top tier coaches can change the trajectory of the Cal Men’s Basketball program. Ensuring they are retained, through the ability to offer competitive salaries/ raises, is necessary as maintaining consistent staff year to year is critical to building a successful program.
